Please Note: The DTAA does not accredit or regulate courses; therefore, it is your responsibility to evaluate the suitability of a course to meet your specific needs and workplace requirements.

Completion of a listed training course does not guarantee DTAA membership; however, all those listed are developed in line with DTAA’s Scope of Practice (hotlink) and Competency Standards (hotlink).

Masters of Dance Movement Therapy – University of Auckland, New Zealand

Masters of Creative Arts Therapy (Drama or Dance Movement Therapy), University of Melbourne, Australia.

The University of Melbourne’s new Masters in Creative Arts Therapy (Drama or Dance Movement specialisations) is offered as a blended learning (on-line and intensives) degree in 2021, making it suitable for study from anywhere in Australia. Applications for 2021 open 1 August and close October 31. More information here.

IDTIA: International Dance Therapy Institute of Australia, Melbourne, Australia

The IDTIA has trained dance movement therapists since 1989 and has run courses at Introductory, Foundation and Advanced Clinical Training levels. The Teaching Faculty, all experienced professional dance movement therapists and teachers currently practising in their respective fields, are graduates of the IDTIA Advanced program who received their training from American dance movement therapist and international educator, Dr Marcia Leventhal PhD CMA ADTR.

Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy-Dance Therapy Training Aotearoa (DTTA), New Zealand

DTTA has been empowering students to become Dance Movement Therapists since 2014. Our course supports individuals to explore the transformative and healing potential of dance and movement. Our training is experiential and flexible, utilising DMT practice & tools to develop embodied skills and understanding through a person centred framework. This is supported by a strong theoretical base, delivered by both local and international teachers. Our Diploma enables graduates to register with the DTAA and practice as a DMT after completing the course. The two year, part-time programme is offered online & in person in Auckland. An Introduction to DMT 2-day course is offered as a one off workshop (online or in person in October/November each year).

Tensegrity Training: NAT11068 Graduate Diploma of Somatics and Dance Movement Therapy, Sunshine Coast, Australia

This course is designed as a post-graduate level course for Allied Health Professionals wanting to develop their professional capacity to work focusing on the psychotherapeutic use of dance/movement and somatics with their clients. Germany

Applied Master’s degree in dance movement therapy at the SRH University Heidelberg
This course was developed within the framework of European alignment and recognition of university degrees (the Bologna Process) and accredited in 2012. It offers graduates of artistic or psychosocial study programs a qualified education in dance movement therapy. This program is designed as a two-year full-time  and generally begins in the winter semester on October 1st. First UK Certification Programme in Laban Movement Studies
Moving Forth in Scotland is collaborating with Laban Institute for Movement Studies® New York (LIMS® NY) to offer in Scotland an accredited Certification Programme in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies® First UK Certification Programme in Laban Movement Studies. Moving Forth in Scotland bring LMA/BF training from Laban Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS), NY, to the UK.

The uniquely interdisciplinary MA course in DMP integrates theoretical, experiential and clinical learning, preparing students to practice as dance movement psychotherapists. On successful completion of the MA students enter the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK professional register.
