Join as an Associate DMT
Who is this for?
- You have graduated from a DMT training program or international equivalent within the past year, or are returning to the profession after an extended break and seek to achieve recognition by the DTAA as a Professional Member. This is the first step!
Eligibility criteria
- Currently in supervision, preferably with a DTAA Clinical DMT Supervisor (or equivalent)
- You have completed 40 hours of clinical practice (leading the entire session) with an associated 10 hours of supervision by a registered Professional DMT or Clinical DMT Supervisor
- Additionally, the Professional Membership Committee (PMC) in conjunction with the applicants develop a plan for further study and practice in order to reach Provisional Professional membership within 2 years.
Titular option
- Members accepted at this level can call their work Dance Movement Therapy and can use the nominal DTAA (Assoc. DMT) in their signature block.
Associate DMT
Once accepted as an Associate DMT, you agree to:
- Identify yourself by the post-nominal of DTAA (Assoc. DMT)
- Continue to progress along the program developed by the PMC
- Meet the supervision requirements with a DTAA Clinical DMT Supervisor (or equivalent).
- Abide by ethical conduct as set out in DTAA’s Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
- Remain a fully paid Associate Member of DTAA, renewing your membership annually
NOTE
- An Associate member does not have the option to deactivate as they are still working toward Professional membership. If the membership lapses, the Associate will not be automatically renewed and must reapply.

Who is this for?
- You have graduated from a DTAA-recognised DMT training program or international equivalent to an approved level.
- You are progressing towards achievement of Professional Membership and expect to reach it within two to three years.
Eligibility criteria
- Minimum of 250 hours’ coursework
- You have completed 80 hours of clinical practice (leading the entire session), with an associated 20 hours of supervision by a registered Professional DMT or Clinical DMT Supervisor, and working towards Professional Membership
Titular option
- Members accepted at this level can call their work Dance Movement Therapy and can use the nominal DTAA (Prov. DMT) in their signature block.
Prov. Prof. DMT
Once accepted as a Professional Provisional DMT, you agree to:
- Identify yourself by the post-nominal of DTAA (Prov DMT).
- Undertake ongoing professional development
- Receive professional supervision of your work
- Abide by ethical conduct as set out in DTAA’s Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
- Remain a fully paid Provisional Professional Member of DTAA, renewing your membership annually.
NOTE
- A Provisional Professional member does not have the option to deactivate as they are still working toward professional membership. If membership lapses, the Provisional Professional member will not be automatically renewed and must reapply. If a break from DMT work is warranted due to personal, health or family circumstances, they must continue to pay their Provisional Professional membership fee. If paying the fee creates a hardship, please send a request via the contact page to explain the circumstances and discuss a fee adjustment.

Who is this for?
You are
- A DTAA Provisional Professional DMT and ready to upgrade to Professional
- An internationally trained DMT, holding a recognised Master’s degree in DMT, and have worked in the profession for a minimum of three years
And you meet the criteria stated below
Eligibility criteria
Have sufficient experience to deliver quality therapeutic services, with clients from diverse backgrounds and a wide range of issues.
- Completed 250 hours of clinical experience (leading the sessions) with a minimum of 70 hours of clinical supervision preferably with a registered Professional DMT or Clinical DMT Supervisor (or international DMT equivalent),
- Continue regular supervision and
- Undertake ongoing professional development
Titular option
- Members accepted at this level can call their work Dance Movement Therapy and can use the nominal DTAA (Prof. DMT) in their signature block.
Prof. DMT
Once accepted as a Professional DMT, you agree to:
- Identify yourself by the post-nominal of DTAA (Prof DMT).
- Undertake ongoing professional development
- Continue regular professional supervision of their work
- Make an active contribution to the Association and to the profession
- Abide by ethical conduct as set out in DTAA’s Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
- Remain a fully paid Professional Member of DTAA, renewing your membership annually.
Professional Members are registered by the DTAA for practice in Australasia and receive a Registration Number.
Deactivation / Reactivation
