The DTAA was established as an incorporated association, registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) in 1994. In May 2019, the association registered with Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) as an Australian Registered Body.
This allows the DTAA to operate across Australasia; there are Professional Members in each state and territory of Australia, in New Zealand and several Asian countries. There are also general members in countries across Europe and the Americas.
On 30 March 2020, the DTAA was incorporated in New Zealand under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. This gives DTAA a legal presence in New Zealand as well as in Australia.
