DMT Experience
I use a reflective approach using embodied and verbal inquiry into the therapists’ experience. With embodied enquiry, I utilize the elements of movement, breath, sound and witnessing. Together we try to understand the Therapists internal experience coupled with external relational interactions to facilitate the therapists’ practice. My supervision approach is embedded in a framework that is multifaceted. The primary influences are Poly Vagal informed Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), Humanistic and Existential theories. Polyvagal-informed DMT is a humanitarian approach based on the universality of our physiology.
Description

My specialties are adult and adolescents mental health including psychiatric disorders, women’s mental health, post-partum depression, drug and alcohol misuse, and complex trauma experienced by adult survivors of child abuse.

I have developed movement therapy programs for community-based groups and women’s health retreats. I also have extensive experience facilitating DMT sessions in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospital-based programs.

I was lecturer at Wesley Institute for five years, teaching the Graduate Diploma of Dance Movement Therapy. I currently hold a position of Lecturer at the IKON Institute of Australia teaching Dance Movement and Embodied Arts

In my private Dance Movement Psychotherapy practice I work with clients with histories of complex trauma. My practice is informed by ongoing professional development in the area of trauma treatment using the body as the primary healing tool.

I am passionate about the relationship between moving and healing and I focus my energy on researching this topic experientially and academically. I am available for group and individual dance movement psychotherapy appointments.
