★ DMT Experience
During the course of my training I completed 120 hours of supervised clinical practice in groups of older adults, mental health clients, and clients with a range of experience of life issues.
In my workplace, at The Prince Charles Hospital, I use DMT in conjunction with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, as both of these modalities focus on mindfulness.
Description

With nearly thirty years working within Brisbane's Metro North Health,  mental health services,  I have a strong clinical foundation for Dance Movement Therapy.

I am currently employed as a Clinical Nurse in community mental health at The Prince Charles Hospital,  Brisbane.  My work has shaped my understanding of the way emotional distress is often experienced through the body as well as the mind.

My first priority is a safe and comfortable environment where individuals can explore their experiences through gentle movement, awareness, and reflection.  Sessions are conducted in small groups, which helps create a sense of safety, shared understanding and connection between participants.

My understanding of  connections between movement,  feelings and perceptions has been developed through many years of engagement in the local Latin dance community,  though zouk,  bachata, and tango, where movement patterns are employed to create joy.

Throughout my career I have seen how patterns of stress, trauma and emotional challenges are also closely related to patterns of movement.  Through mindful movement to music and gentle exploration of these patterns, individuals begin to develop better awareness of the reciprocal connections between movement, emotions,  feelings and perceptions.

Decades of research show that the quality of connection between a therapist and a client is the single most important factor in the quality of therapeutic outcomes.  Mirroring movement of others in dance related movement creates an attunement that fosters strong therapeutic rapport and better clinical outcomes.
