Description

My name is Ann Way (or Tran Huynh Trieu An in Vietnamese). I was born in Vietnam, grew up, and educated in the UK. I moved to New Zealand in 2014 and now call it my second home. I live on Aotea Great Barrier Island and Auckland, Tāmaki Makaurau. I work as a Safety and Well-being facilitator for families in the Family Violence sector and as a Dance Movement Therapist at my private practice (Night Owl Art). I am also a researcher in the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland, researching the relationship between life span development and body-oriented psychology (dance movement therapy, specifically). My current research focuses on embodied development, somatic awareness, and integration of mind and body with cultural considerations, including trauma and developmental pathways. In 2025, I will start my PhD research with a clinical randomised control trial, incorporating two of my current interests: Dance Movement Therapy and Dementia/Mild Cognitive impairment.
